Kate Winslet To Get CineMerit Award For “Lee”

This year’s Munich International Film Festival will present Oscar winner Kate Winslet with the CineMerit Award for remarkable achievement.

In her latest film, Lee, Kate Winslet plays war correspondent and photographer Lee Miller. She will be at the German festival to celebrate the film’s European premiere. Following the Munich screening of Lee, she will be presented with the CineMerit Award and participate in a roundtable discussion.

Last year, Ellen Kuras’s film Lee made its Toronto debut. Costarring are Andy Samberg, Josh O’Connor, Noémie Merlant, Marion Cotillard, and Andrea Riseborough. Winslet is the movie’s producer as well. Lee will be released in Germany by StudioCanal and make its theatrical debut here in September.

In a joint statement, festival directors Christoph Gröner and Julia Weigl expressed their excitement that Kate Winslet would be joining them in Munich to celebrate the film’s European premiere. “Lee’s portrayal of a character is incredibly intense. We think the Munich International Film Festival must promote democracy, diversity, and integration with its wide range of films and voices.”
This year, Jessica Lange, another renowned Oscar-winning actress, will also receive the CineMerit award in Munich.
