Jensen Ackles will return for Season 2 of the CBS procedural series, which debuted the “Supernatural” star in its first season. Star and EP Justin Hartley and showrunner Elwood Reid made the announcement during the Television Critics Association summer press conference.
“We got him, he’s coming back,” Hartley said to the media on Saturday during the introduction of the CBS drama. “We’re having fun with that, it’s a great story.”
The announcement follows rumors among fans that Ackles, who portrays Hartley’s estranged brother, Colter Shaw, might be unable to make it back for a future “Tracker” episode due to his Prime Video thriller series “Countdown.”
Jensen Ackles Will Appear In More Than One Episode
Elwood, an EP on the show, verified that Ackles will make multiple appearances in the episodes. Elwood expressed that he was “particularly excited” about the impending plot, even though the producers plan to keep it a secret until the Season 2 launch this autumn.
“Jensen and I have worked together before, and Justin is friends with him,” Elwood remarked, alluding to his tenure as showrunner of ABC’s “Big Sky.” “When we text him, he responds, ‘Tell me where and when,’ and it’s like we’re family. That’s just the type of man he is.
Before “Tracker”‘s Season 2 premiere on Sunday, October 27, Elwood hinted that there will be some “surprises” in the upcoming episode.
“This season is going to be even better and more fun,” Elwood stated. “We’ve got some big surprises coming up this season, I know everyone says that but we truly do.”
In “Countdown,” a Prime Video series, Ackles plays LAPD officer Mark Meachum. He is chosen to be a member of a covert task group made up of undercover officers from several law enforcement agencies to look into a suspected daylight murder.
