The Wombats Reveal Terrifying ‘Pretty Freaky’ Incident in Rio That Left Them Shaken

Indie rock band The Wombats recently opened up about a bizarre and unsettling experience they had while touring in Rio de Janeiro. The Liverpool-based trio, known for their energetic performances and infectious hits like “Let’s Dance to Joy Division,” recalled the eerie event in a recent interview, describing it as one of the most unnerving moments of their career.

According to lead singer Matthew “Murph” Murphy, the incident took place during a late-night outing in the Brazilian city. While the band was enjoying a casual stroll after their performance, they suddenly felt like they were being watched. “It was pretty freaky. We were just walking, and we had this strange sense that something was off,” Murph said.

Things took a disturbing turn when a mysterious man started trailing them. “At first, we thought it was just a fan or someone harmless, but then it became obvious that this person was following us with intent,” bassist Tord Øverland Knudsen added. “We tried changing our route a couple of times, but he kept showing up.”

Panic set in as the band members realized they were being followed through multiple streets. “We ducked into a café, and the guy stood outside just staring at us. It was really unnerving,” Murph revealed. “We ended up calling some local security to make sure we got back safely.”

Although the situation didn’t escalate into anything dangerous, the band admitted that it left them shaken. “We’ve traveled all over the world and had some crazy experiences, but this one was next-level creepy,” drummer Dan Haggis said.

Fans of The Wombats were quick to react on social media, expressing concern for the band while also praising them for sharing their story. “Glad nothing bad happened to them! Touring must be wild,” one fan commented.

Despite the chilling encounter, The Wombats remain excited about their ongoing tour and have reassured fans that they won’t let the incident stop them from performing in South America again. “Rio is an incredible city, and we’d love to come back. We’ll just be a little more careful next time!” Murph said with a laugh.

The band continues to ride the wave of their recent success, with fans eagerly awaiting their next performances and music releases. One thing is certain—this is a story The Wombats won’t forget anytime soon!
