This places it 15% higher than the most recent comparable title to debut on Netflix, “One Piece,” a live-action version of the manga series of the same name that served as the inspiration for a beloved anime.
The fact that Avatar: The Last Airbender surpassed One Piece’s 18.5 million-view premiere is encouraging for Netflix, but this was to be expected considering the relatively greater demand for the Avatar IP in the US. The success of the franchise for Netflix will also be determined by how long the series lasts. In contrast, One Piece topped the Netflix Top 10 three times in a row and stayed there for a total of eight weeks.
