Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians left fans spellbound with its debut season, but one burning question remains: Will the god of the dead, Hades, return to wreak havoc in Season 2? In an exclusive chat with The Olympus Chronicle, Jay Duplass, who brought the brooding ruler of the Underworld to life, just dropped a massive hint that’s sending fans into a frenzy.
When asked directly if Hades will appear in Season 2, Duplass smirked and replied, “Let’s just say the dead don’t stay buried forever. The Underworld has a way of pulling people back… even me.” The cryptic tease has fans dissecting every word, with theories exploding online. One Reddit user wrote, “Hades barely scratched the surface in Season 1. He’s way bigger in the books later… this has to be a setup!”
While Season 2 will adapt The Sea of Monsters (book two), Hades doesn’t play a central role—yet. But diehard book fans know his scheming reaches its peak in The Last Olympian. Could Duplass’s comments hint at an expanded role to plant seeds for future seasons? A source close to production revealed, “The creative team isn’t sticking 100% to the books. Surprise cameos aren’t off the table.”
Showrunner Jon Steinberg previously teased that the series plans to “explore deeper layers of the gods,” including their “complicated relationships with demigods.” Hades, who’s both antagonistic and sympathetic in Rick Riordan’s novels, fits that bill perfectly. Duplass’s nuanced Season 1 portrayal also earned praise, with fans begging for more of his morally grey charm.
But here’s the twist: Even if Hades doesn’t storm into The Sea of Monsters, Duplass’s tease suggests he’s locked in for the long game. “I’ve loved being part of this world,” he added. “And who wouldn’t want to work with [Walker Scobell] and that incredible crew again?”
With Season 2 set to start filming this fall, all signs point to Hades lurking in the shadows. Will he ally with Percy, or double-cross the heroes? Only time—and maybe a sacrificial offering—will tell.
Stay tuned to The Olympus Chronicle for more exclusive Percy Jackson updates—and pray you don’t end up on Hades’ bad side.
