Aldis Hodge Brings Justice To ‘Cross’ With A Fresh Take On Alex Cross

In the upcoming crime-thriller series Cross, Aldis Hodge takes on the role of the iconic detective Alex Cross, bringing a fresh and authentic portrayal that differs from previous adaptations. Premiering on Prime Video on November 14, Cross dives deeper into the character’s complexity, not just focusing on his detective work but also exploring his personal life as a father. Hodge, known for his roles in Black Adam and Hidden Figures, brings a grounded, multidimensional take to Cross that highlights both his intellect and vulnerability

Unlike the earlier movie portrayals of the character, which some felt didn’t fully capture the essence of Cross as depicted in James Patterson’s novels, this series offers the time and space to truly develop the character. As Hodge puts it, TV allows for a deeper connection to Cross’s world, where his relationships and inner struggles are just as important as the cases he solves

Set in Washington, D.C., with a gritty and authentic backdrop, Cross follows Alex as he hunts a sadistic serial killer while grappling with a threat from his past that threatens to unravel his carefully rebuilt life. The series, created by Ben Watkins, also gives more focus to Alex’s partnership with his loyal friend and colleague, John Sampson (played by Isaiah Mustafa), a dynamic that had been downplayed in the films

With an ensemble cast, including Ryan Eggold and Alona Tal, Cross promises a mix of intense action and intriguing character moments, ensuring viewers are not only hooked by the crime but also by the characters’ rich backstories and relationships. As the first season premieres with all eight episodes available for streaming, it’s clear that Cross is a thrilling, character-driven series worth watching
